Prayer Ministries
We believe God sustains and grows us through prayer. For this reason, our church and its ministries are bathed in prayer every day of the week.
Jesus taught His disciples to pray unceasingly for everything and in all circum-stances. The First Church Prayer Ministry promotes the importance of prayer for all. The following list shows some of the many facets of this ministry.
We invite members with a heart for prayer to become prayer ministers. For details, go to the Prayer Classes page.
Chapel Prayer — Anyone can come to the Chapel after Sunday services to receive a short prayer from our Prayer Ministers.
Sunday Service Prayer — Individuals on the team intercede for the pastors and the congregation during the Sunday services.
Prayer Armor — Individuals pray on a specific day of the week for First Church.
Prayer Wall — The prayers are regularly prayed over and remain current for four weeks. They are removed from the wall after that period, unless updated.
Monday Intercessory Prayer — Led by Warren Viele and Charlotte Howson, they meet Mondays, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel to raise up concerns for others and our world.
Prayer Shawl Ministry — This group meets the first Tuesday of the month to prayerfully knit shawls for individuals celebrating the birth of a child, confronting a major illness, or facing loss.
Telephone/E-mail Prayer Chain — Everyday faithful pray-ers are contacted through Caring Ministries to pray for concerns and offer praise for answered prayer.
Individual Prayer — Members can make an appointment to receive individual prayer from two prayer ministers at a mutually convenient time.
