EVERY ADVENT SEASON is enriched by our very special midweek “Heart-to-Heart” services of prayer and Holy Communion, offered in the Meetinghouse Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:15.
During the three Advent services — December 6, 13 and 20 — a different member of our family of faith will speak briefly, Heart-to-Heart, focusing on inspiring stories from their own lives. Our three speakers are, respectively, Alice Goodrich, Mark Charette and Patti Sicord. See their short bios below.
HEALING SERVICE:The final Advent service — on December 20 — will be followed by a healing service. After the Heart-to-Heart talk and service of Communion, there will be an opportunity for those who would like to receive prayer for healing from one of the pastors.
On Dec. 6, our speaker will be Alice Goodrich. A member for 31 years, Alice has served our church community as an usher, greeter, Church School teacher, Board of Deacons Chair, Singles Ministry Missions Coordinator, in addition to her involvement with VBC, Outreach, Extended Communion, Women’s Retreat, Prayer Team, ACTNOW, and other ministries. She writes, “Serving is how I’ve grown over the years. God stretches us when we open ourselves to His leading. We are all blessed to be a blessing.”
Mark Charette will share on Dec. 13. Mark has attended for 24 years, serving on the Board of Deacons, Senior Pastor Search Committee, Marsh 2.0 Committee and the Church Board. He belongs to two men’s covenant groups (17 and 8 years) and has served with a national Christian men’s group. Mark’s desire and heart are seeking God and serving and loving his family. He lives in Glastonbury and has two married daughters and four grandchildren. His daughter and son-in-law are also First Church members.
On Dec. 20, our speaker will be Patti Sicord. Patti has been attending First Church for 11 years and is currently a first-year Deacon. She has served on the Prayer Team and the Nominating (now Leadership) Committee, as well as the Alpha course and the Marsh 2.0 Committee, and she helps lead DivorceCare. Patti has a heart for those going through the pain of separation and divorce. She lives in South Windsor and has three children — Jimmy, Kelly and Erin.
