Please make out your check to First Church of Christ with WORKCAMP written in the memo line.
Please send your check to: First Church of Christ at 250 Main St. Wethersfield, CT 06109.
These funds will be used for the purchasing of materials for all the projects being done.
There are many ways to become involved in this project. Here are the teams we have overseeing different aspects of WORKCAMP that we would love to include you in.
Ladder Team: The ladder team will be responsible for gathering and transporting ladders to and from the different worksites. Team members will communicate with Workcamp staff to keep the ladder spreadsheet accurate and to ensure that work crews have adequate ladders to complete their work. This will also involve connecting with local residents who will be willing to offer their ladder for the week of Workcamp.
Hospitality Team: The hospitality team has the opportunity to make this week extra special for the participants who come to serve our community. From hosting a BBQ on Sunday the day of arrival, to delivering popsicles to participants on the worksites, there will be many creative ways that hospitality team members will be able to connect with the Workcamp community.
Fundraising Team: While we have a great start to our funding, we still have a way to go. Fundraising team members will work to close that gap. This could include reaching out to area churches, individual donors, and even local businesses who may want to support this effort to benefit our community with "In Kind" donations.
Media Team: Media team members will be responsible for reaching out to local news platforms including news stations, local newspapers, and possibly even social media communications. We want to get the word out that something great is happening in our community and we’ll need individuals who will intentionally foster those connections.
Setup Team: The setup team will be available to work with Group Missions staff in the days leading up to the week of Workcamp. This could also include some tasks that help prepare the homes that participants will be working on.
Local Project Advisors: Local Project Advisors are individuals with expertise in the area of home repair. LPAs will be available during the week of Workcamp to partner with Workcamp staff and participants as challenges arise on worksites. LPAs need to have a knowledge of local building code, house painting technique, and carpentry. They need to be willing to coach, and not take over, the work that is meant to be completed by the participants.
Clean Up Team: The clean-up team will work to create and implement a plan for daily trash pick up at the worksites. This could be done in partnership with town staff, if available, or could involve the recruitment of volunteers who can handle this work.
After Care Team: When the camp is over, and the participants have left Wethersfield, there may be unfinished projects. The after care team will step in to complete the work that has begun. After care team members may also have the opportunity to connect with community residents who were served during the week of Workcamp to maintain a relationship.
Office Volunteers: We will have a dedicated phone line and e-mail address connected to this project. Office volunteers will be responsible for checking those streams of communication, returning calls and e-mails, and connecting those who have contacted us with the right people.
Church Liaison: Coordinate area churches and encourage them to provide support. In the past, churches have provided devotional notes to campers, hung posters in the hallways of the school, provided prayers.
Prayer Team: Work camp week belongs to God. We are excited to see what he will do for the homeowners in our area. We need lots of prayer. Especially for all the volunteers that fill the above positions, participants and homeowners. Be part of an exciting and powerful team.
